In Texas Holdem each player first gets dealt 2 cards face down (hole cards)
There is then a round of betting based on these cards.
You then get 3 cards dealt face up in the middle of the table (the flop)
There is then a round of betting based on these cards.
You then get one more card dealt face up in the middle of the table (the turn).
There is then a round of betting
You then get a last card dealt face up in the middle of the table (the river)
There is then a final round of betting
The best 5 card hand, using any combination of your 2 cards and the 5 face up cards (the board) wins
The hands are ranked as follows (from worst hand to best hand) :-
High Card (eg Ace high (Axxxx))
1 pair (eg pair of jacks (JJxxx))
2 pair (eg QQ88x)
3 of a kind (eg 777xx)
Straight (eg KQJT9)
Flush (eg KJ743 all of the same suit)
Full House (eg KKK88)
4 of a kind (eg AAAAx)
Straight Flush (eg 45678 all of same suit)
Royal Flush (AKQJT all of the same suit)
