There are a number of variations. For exampe:- 5 Card Stud, 7 Card Stud, Stud Hi-Lo
7 Card Stud
You are first dealt 2 cards face down (downcards), and 1 card faceup (upcard)
You then have a round of betting based on these 3 cards
You are then all dealt another upcard (named 4th Street), followed by a round of betting
Then another upcard each (5th street), followed by a round of betting
Then another upcard each (6th street), followed by a round of betting
At this stage all players remaining are showing 4 cards face up. Observing other players upcards at all stages of the betting is a very important part of Stud. Likewise it is important to have a good memory and remember the upcards that have already been mucked by other players.
Finally we have one downcard each (7th street), followed by a round of betting
Using any 5 of your 7 cards, the best hand wins (using usual Holdem hand ranking)
